LOCATION: 

  • Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center, 6321 Holland Rd, Suffolk, VA 23437
  • The Tidewater AREC is a 465-acre research farm located in Suffolk, VA with eight faculty members on-site. Graduate students will be located on Virginia Tech’s main campus during the first academic year for coursework and at the Tidewater AREC during the summers and subsequent academic year.

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

  • The Virginia Tech Soybean Agronomy team is seeking a motivated graduate student to conduct applied soybean research. The research project will focus on validating in-season potassium management opportunities in United States soybean.
  • The student will gain experience beyond their primary research project and will participate in all soybean agronomy research, as well as attendance at several education events and field days. Activities will include outdoor research collecting soil and plant samples, application of fertilizer treatments, associated laboratory work including sample analysis, data analysis, report preparation, and presentation of research results at local, regional, and national meetings

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • B.S. in Soil Science, Crop Science, Agronomy, or closely related field preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required to be successful in this research project. 
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member. 
  • Demonstrated excellence in course work.

STIPEND: 

  • Annual stipend of $33,000. Additionally, in-state tuition will be covered for required coursework.
