Research
The Virginia Tech soybean agronomy program conducts applied research to investigate current limitations in Virginia soybean production as well as potential future solutions to support the success of Virginia soybean farmers. A needs assessment survey was conducted in 2024 and identified top research priorities, which have been used to build research objectives. This includes the following current research projects:
1. Official variety testing for full season and double crop systems
2. Planting recommendations for full season soybean production
3. Improving the in-season diagnostic tools for potassium deficiencies
4. And other major yield limiting challenges identified by Virginia stakeholders
These research projects are being conducted statewide with the support of other ARECs, county extension agents, and cooperating farmers and are made possible through the support of the Virginia Soybean Board.
