A portion of the peanut research program at TAREC consists of the Peanut Variety and Quality Evaluation (PVQE) program. This multi-state program through a collaboration with multiple universities including Virginia Tech, NC State, and Clemson, evaluates new varieties developed for release into the Virginia – Carolinas growing region. These varieties are evaluated in field trials across the V-C region in accordance with common grower practices and are compared to commercially available varieties. This program provides valuable information regarding agronomic performance and quality of varieties to assess all stakeholder needs before a variety’s commercial release.

In addition to the PVQE, agronomic research on peanuts is also conducted. The primary purpose of this research is to provide stakeholders with answers to production questions relating to the growth and development of peanuts in Virginia.

Extension

The goal of the PVQE and Peanut Extension Program is to provide valuable information through a variety of digital and hardcopy resources to equip stakeholders with all the necessary information to make informed decisions about production practices that will ultimately impact a producer’s bottom-line.
