Graduate student research at the Eastern Shore AREC impacts stakeholders, growers, and industry on a local, national, and global level. Currently, students are conducting research on the following:
- Cover crops and their impacts on nutrient cycling, soil moisture retention, crop yields, and overall soil health, as well as the economics of implementing them into agronomic production systems
- Nitrogen and irrigation management in potatoes
- The impact of incorporating kaolin clay and colored mulches on tomato production on the Eastern Shore of Virginia during the summer
- Phosphorus nutrient fertility and environmental transport
- Integration of Machine Learning and Unmanned Aerial Systems for Weed Mapping Operations
- Cover crop timing and planting methods for improved soil health and nutrient leaching.
