Manoj Subedi

MSc. Student Grape Pathology

My name is Manoj Subedi. I am from Nepal, a country in the Himalayas. I am a graduate research assistant in the Grape Pathology Lab at Alson H. Smith Jr. Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Winchester, VA. I am pursuing my MS degree in Plant Pathology, Physiology, and Weed Science at the School of Plant and Environmental Sciences of Virginia Tech. Dr. Mizuho Nita is my advisor. My current focus is on the disease management and pathogen identification of ripe rot and sour rot of grapes, both are common diseases among many grape-growing regions worldwide.

I grew up in agricultural settings in the rural hilly district of Nepal where farming and agricultural operations were the predominant occupation of people. Through my childhood, I have developed a passion and love for crop plants. After completing high school, I joined Agriculture and Forestry University, Rampur, Nepal (AFU) to follow my passion and gain more knowledge. I obtained my B.S. degree in Agriculture in 2019. Then I worked at National Plant Breeding and Genetics Research Center (Nepal Agricultural Research Center) as a volunteer research assistant in a wheat breeding program performing scouting and rating of wheat stripe rust and leaf rust diseases.
