Michael Schwarz, director of the Virginia Seafood Agricultural Research and Extension Center of Virginia Tech, was among individuals named for key administration appointments in an announcement by Governor Glenn Youngkin this week. Appointed to the Aquaculture Advisory Board, Schwarz brings experience both as a dedicated researcher in sustainable fisheries and aquaculture and as a leader committed to serving the seafood industry and its stakeholders.

"I’m proud to appoint these dedicated individuals," said Governor Glenn Youngkin in a press release on Tuesday, August 3rd. “Their work will move our Commonwealth into the future and help create a best-in-class government."

The Aquaculture Advisory Board  was created by action of the 1992 General Assembly for the purpose of advising the Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services on matters relating to aquaculture. As part of the seven-member board, Schwarz will aid in representing the interest of the state's aquaculture industry.
