Governor Youngkin proclaims March as Virginia Controlled Environment Agriculture Month as industry looks ahead to second annual CEA Summit East conference in September

Governor Glenn Youngkin recently declared March as Virginia Controlled Environment Agriculture Month, citing recent economic development announcements and the growing demand for safe, sustainable, and locally grown food as clear indicators of the advantages that make Virginia an ideal location for the burgeoning indoor farming industry. Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) utilizes innovations in technology in various growing methods such as hydroponics, aeroponics, and aquaponics.

“I am thrilled Virginia is playing a leading role in the indoor farming revolution that is changing where much of our food is coming from," said Governor Youngkin in a press release.

In line with this spirit of promoting next-generation agriculture, the 2nd annual CEA Summit East is set to take place at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in Danville, VA on September 19-20, 2023. Co-hosted by Indoor Ag-Con and the CEA Innovation Center, a joint project between IALR and Virginia Tech’s School of Plant and Environmental Sciences and the Virginia Seafood Agricultural Research and Extension Center, the summit brings together controlled environment agriculture (CEA) industry leaders, academics, and researchers to share their knowledge and expertise, showcase the latest advancements in CEA, and build partnerships to drive future growth for the sector and its stakeholders.
