See the transformation! New seafood research and extension facility in Hampton nears completion
The Virginia Seafood Agricultural Research and Extension Center has sat at the heart of the Virginia seafood industry in the City of Hampton for decades. And with the construction of a new and expanded research and extension facility nearing completion, the center will be there for decades to come.
The new 21,700-square-foot facility has taken shape on the waterfront of the Hampton River over the past year. In that time, the center's team and programs have seen growth to match. The Virginia Seafood AREC faculty and staff will soon move into the new facility, equipped with expanded seafood technologies/processing and microbiological laboratories, upgraded aquaculture, fisheries research facilities, water chemistry labs, expanded classrooms, outreach/demonstration and training facilities, and additional workstations and accommodations for visiting faculty, students, and industry collaborators.
