M.S., Animal Breeding and Genetics, 1996, University of Nebraska-Lincoln
B.S., Animal Science, 1994, Michigan State University
Awards:
John H. Daniels Fellow, National Sporting Library, 2010-2011
Certificate of Teaching Excellence, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, 2009
Agriculture Woman of the Year, Sigma Alpha, Pi Chapter, 2005
Educator of the Year, Virginia Horse Council, 2003
Rebecca Splan’s research interests generally center on quantitative genetics, conformation and biomechanics, but she is innately curious about most things equine. In addition to her ‘horse-centered’ research efforts, Dr. Splan has recently forayed into the scholarship of teaching and learning as it applies to equine science education. She seeks to discover how undergraduates can become more self-regulated learners and how the horse can be used to facilitate cognitive and affective development.
