Eastern Virginia AREC and the Virginia Grain Producers Association once again joined forces to host the Virginia Small Grains Field Day at Eastern Virginia AREC in Warsaw, VA on May 19, 2022. The day began with field tours discussing progress in the small grain breeding program including upcoming variety releases, progress of malting barleys, remote sensing research, and disease management.

In addition to field tours, the indoor portion of the event included celebrating the career of Dr. Carl Griffey who retired in December 2020. Dr. Carl Griffey was recently inducted into the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Hall of Fame after a long and successful career as the premier small grains breeder on the east coast.
