ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE VIRGINIA SEAFOOD INDUSTRY IN 2019
The economic benefits of the seafood supply chain to the overall state economy demonstrate the magnitude and reach of the Virginia seafood industry. Watermen, aquaculture farmers, processors, and distributors sustain jobs and support other economic sectors operating within and beyond our Commonwealth that amplify their contribution to our economy. A report on the combined impact of the different levels of the seafood supply chain on the Virginia Commonwealth’s economy is published and available through Virginia Cooperative Extension and Fishes, an international, peer-reviewed, scientific, open access journal published by MDPI.
The study, led by the Virginia Seafood Agricultural Research and Extension Center of Virginia Tech in partnership with the Virginia Marine Products Board, included an economic impact analysis and measured the combined impact of the different levels of the seafood supply chain on the Virginia Commonwealth’s economy in 2019. Participant recruitment materials developed for this survey are available online.
